Ganda Moola Nakshatra -The transformation!

Hello all,

Namaste! Hope all of you had a beautiful week where you were able to take all the disparate energies of your life, align it well towards the goals you have kept for your life. Last week we discussed the Nakshatra 'Moola' and how there are many social misconceptions associated with it's energies. Today let us discuss another aspect associated with Moola nakshatra and the house it sits in, which bring a more fear for those who know a slight bit of Astrology. It is called 'Ganda Moola' and Moola is one of the Ganda Moola lunar mansions. So this concept for Moola is called a 'Ganda Moola'.

What is Ganda Moola? In Astrology there are houses, and each house brings the energy of fire, earth, water, and air. Most of you know the Astrology houses, I assume. So according to the energies mentioned above the different house energies are-
1, Fire houses - Aries (Mesha), Leo (Simha), Sagittarius (Dhanus)
2, Earth houses - Taurus (Vrishabha), Virgo (Kanya), Capricorn (Makara)
3, Air houses - Gemini (Mithuna), Libra (Thula), Aquarius (Kumbha)

4, Water houses - Cancer (Kadaka), Scorpio (Vritchika), Pisces (Meena)

So these are how the houses perform according to the energies. In Astrology the house when given in a chart is taken clockwise from Aries to Pisces and after that again Aries starts, except for shadow planets like Rahu and Kethu. So, normally a chart is read clockwise from Aries to Pisces. With this scenario in mind, there are three places where there is a placement of a fire house just after a water house. They are Pisces, a water house followed by a fire house Aries, Cancer, a water house followed by a fire house Leo and Scorpio, a water house followed by a fire house, Sagittarius. So, water followed by fire.

Let us go more deeper. What happens when water and fire mix? If there is too much water, it would put out the fire. If there is too much fire, it would evaporate the water. These are two different energies that don't really mix. In Astrology each element has an underlying meaning. Water in deep Astrology is our feelings and emotions. Fire is the spark or the energy of creativity. Both are needed for humans.

Assume, there is too much energy of water. Then it translates to too many emotions. In humans how it would translate? A person having too many emotions to handle. They would become stuck in their emotions, whether, sadness, happiness, melancholy, depression or whatever. Now comes the fire, the creativity or anger in lower vibrations. So this person due to their emotions would not be able to pursue their creativity. Every time the overwhelming emotions (water) put out their creativity.

In the same way, if there is too much of fire, it dries up all the feelings. Then they have tons of energy to do something, but don't know what to do, as ideas and concepts come from our emotions and feelings. Remember a painting or a poem comes when the creator pours in his/her emotions into the painting or the poetry. They have all the fiery spark but have no idea how to use the energy or what to use it towards.

These disparate energies are at play between Pisces-Aries, Cancer-Leo, and Scorpio-Sagittarius, is called Ganda Moola and a person born in these cusps (the degrees between two houses) find it tough to deal with this kind of energy. They have no idea how the energies play out in their lives.

Ganda Moola Nakshatra:  The Ganda Moola is the first level of difficulty. Now comes the next level. There are Nakshatras that are ruled by Kethu and Mercury that gets placed at this cusps. These Nakshatras are Aswini, Magha and Moola, the Kethu Nakshatras, and Aslesha, Jyeshta and Revathi, the Mercury stars.

Out of this Aslesha to Magha (Cancer to Leo) and Revathi to Aswini (Pisces to Aries) are considered less intense as the house cusps (Cancer/Leo and Pisces/Aries) doesn't exactly coincide with the Nakshatra cusps (ending of one Nakshatra and starting of the next). Even though the Ganda Moola concept is effective here, only one Nakshatra spans the house cusps. So, the effect is a bit less.

Now let us look at the third Ganda Moola, Scorpio to Sagittarius and Jyeshta Nakshatra to Moola Nakshatra. At this junction exactly where Scorpio ends and Sagittarius begins, Jyeshta ends and Moola begins. So Jyeshta runs from 16.40 to 30 degrees Scorpio. Moola runs from 0 degree to 13.20 degree of Sagittarius. A house spans 30 degrees. So exactly where Scorpio ends and Sagittarius begins, at that same point Jyeshta Nakshatra ends and Moola, the next lunar mansion begins. So, this cusp of Scorpio/Sagittarius and Jyeshta/Moola becomes totally intense.

Last week we also discussed that the Galactic center is embedded in Moola Nakshatra. So already there are very intense Universal energies at play. Above this, there are four energies of Scorpio, Sagittarius, Jyeshta, and Moola. Talk about a Tsunami of leviathan proportions in the making.

A poor planet: To make matters more complicated let us bring in a planet here. As we have discussed before in Astrology the energies play in our life through the Moon or our mind. So, which planet else is apt to be discussed here than the Moon? So let us place the poor Moon here. So we are placing the mind of a person here, as Moon is the mind. In other words think of a person born on this cusp, just at the very end of Jyeshta Nakshatra like 29-30 degree Jyeshta or 0-1 degree Moola. So Moon, the mind of the person is placed here.

Now let us enjoy the play of the energies. So for this person what are all the energies? The list is very long, it may take some time to list everything. First Scorpio-water energy, Sagittarius-fire energy, Jyeshta-again water due to Scorpio, Moola-fire as Sagittarius, Jyeshta-air energy as Mercury is the ruling planet, the diety for Jyeshta is Indra-again fire, Kethu is the ruling planet of Mula. Kethu is the black hole, which absorbs everything and gives away nothing. The diety for Moola is Nritti/Alakshmi or Kali- again super hot fire energy. Above all this, there is the Galactic center sitting right at the middle/end of Moola Nakshatra. Above this Moon is the planet placed here. Moon is again the realm of emotions or water in the area of the mind.

From a human perspective: To elaborate more from a human perspective, let us take the example of a person. Let us call him/her JM for Jyeshta/Moola cusp. Now, this person JM is born right at the beginning of Moola, as Moola was the star we discussed last week; so according to our previous discussions, the mind is getting placed here. In human life many times these energies come into play in our life through our mind and the energies may represent people in our life.

So here JM has a load of water and fire energies. Let us think the water energy is the mother and the fire energy is the father. Mom being water, she becomes very emotional when there is a difference of opinion between the family members. Dad encompassing fire energy, he becomes angry when the Mom becomes emotional. Above this, the Moola and Jyeshta concept also have to come to play. Mom's emotional nature makes the dad become more angry, upset and stubborn. Stubborn and arrogance are the lower vibrations of Jyeshta, as Indra is the deity. Even though Indra was the king of the Devas (celestial beings), he had a lot of ego and arrogance. So that plays through the dad. That arrogance makes dad angrier and he shouts, the energy of Moola, the firepower.

This makes the Mom who is the water-energy even more emotional and upset. This takes her to deep melancholic states as Scorpio is a great very deep water body. Mom goes into deep levels of depression where she is not able to handle the emotions. The kid who is the Jyeshta/Moola cusp has no clue what is happening, as Kethu and Galactic center rules the kid. The kid takes in everything, the play of energies that happens due to the nature of the black hole. But as Kethu is the ruler, they are totally confused how to make sense of all the watery-fiery energies. Kethu has no head, so the kid also has no head to make sense of the confusion that ensues.

Above this, as the mind is placed in Scorpio-Sagittarius cusp, sometimes the water of Scorpio overwhelms them and at other times the Sagittarius fire makes them angry. So they also play out the water/fire energy of the Mom and Dad. Total chaos in their mind. In such a scenario they may not have the interest to study or perform well in their school. The Mom and Dad may also not realize what is the real reason behind the low performance of the kid in the school. Total confusion and ultimately a mess!

How to use the energy efficiently? Now the question becomes how to use the energy well? Is there any way the poor kid can use the energies playing out in his/her life effectively? Before going into that let us discuss the landscape of Scorpio and Sagittarius from an Earthly sense. Scorpio is a huge lake or water body with deep stillness. Many times the depth of the lake is difficult to fathom. It is the domain of emotions, that too very deep, where a person can get into the realm of imaginations. Another thing to note is, even though Scorpio is a water house, the planet ruling Scorpio is Mars, the fire incarnate. So Scorpio people underneath all the emotions do have the drive and ambition of Mars. But it under the deep body of water.

Now the landscape of Sagittarius is the desert or the desert near a city as the underlying energy is fire. Here there is no water, but only the fire. So now think, to bring water into the desert where should you turn? You should turn to the house of Scorpio, the deep still lake and bring that emotion into the house of Sagittarius, the desert.

So, in other words, take the emotions/imagination of Scorpio and bring it into the spark of Sagittarius and create something fantastic for oneself. How can this be done? This is where the Moon or mind comes totally into the picture. The mind is sitting solidly between water (Scorpio, Jyeshta, Moon), fire (Sagittarius, Moola, Mars, Galactic center), and air (Mercury, Jupiter-the house ruler of Sagittarius).

A mind can be balanced or unbalanced. A balanced mind takes the air or the ideas/perceptions given by the blessing of Mercury and Jupiter, strengthens it with the vibrancy of emotions/feelings given by Scorpio, Jyeshta, and Moon, and creates something with the fiery spark of  Sagittarius, Mars, Moola and Galactic center and uses it for oneself with the wisdom given by Kethu, Ganesha and Jupiter. As mentioned in the previous post, Kethu in higher vibrations is wisdom and Ganesha is the deity ruling Kethu, who is wisdom incarnate. So, in other words, make steam using the water and fire and bring (cook) your ideas/imaginations into existence.

Gandantha point (Spiritual knot): So if the person JM once he/she reaches a stage of wisdom, keeping a balanced mind can use the enormous power of water, fire, and air given to them by virtue of their Moon in the Ganda point to bring something fantastic to themselves and later to the greater world. Like this, they can use these energies to literally transform their lives.

This Ganda also in some classics are called 'Gandantha'. In esoteric terms, this is considered a spiritual knot. What I have understood from the scriptures is, in a previous life the soul of the person having a planet especially the Moon in the Gandantha had to go through very very tough life experiences and succumbed to those experiences without any way to overcome it. Literally, they gave up their life working through some tough life energies. So that Karma (duty to overcome those challenges) was placed as a spiritual knot in their life, which they have to overcome in their next life.

Once they overcome it through a balanced and wise mind, they are given all these enormous energies at their disposal to work with. But the tough part is overcoming it with a balanced mind. They have to go through the energy of Scorpio, literally a deluge or a flood (Mahapralaya) of emotions and the second they get a hold on their emotions, it is an inferno of anger, frustration, and rage. Above this, the air in the form of thoughts again gives power to the anger, which leads to outbursts that lead to again depleted emotions or sadness.

Literally they are tossed about by emotions, anger, and thoughts. Up and down they are thrown around in their mind without a reprive, other than to balance their mind. One more point to keep in mind is that the spiritual knot is very difficult for the Ganda Moola person itself, not to the others. The challenges the person has to face are enormous and others should extend some kindness to that person. But the sad truth is that many times people may not be kind, as the person has to learn through his/her own experiences and strength to stand strong on their own values and principles. So the person wouldn't get kindness.

Only after the mind comes into control they can even think about using these energies. A total tough place to be. The one and only solution is a balanced and strong mind. So this Gandantha point about Moola also brings fear into the minds of humans. But is it really worth fearing? Another point, only a soul who has to work with tough energies to bring out a very strong mind would be given these tests by the Universe. So anyone who has a planet in the Gandantha point should be grateful for the blessings conferred by the Universe after some very challenging tests. Only big trials bring big rewards.

So this astrological point truly teaches a soul how to capture the disparate warring energies and make them work for their life, by bringing their mind under control. A total and true transformation!

I wish you a good weekend and I'll see you next Friday! 😉

Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, "There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance ; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried".
