The Wisdom!
Hello all,
Namaste! Hope you had a great week where you were able to bring in the awareness to see where your ship of life is going. Last week we discussed the difference between living in an autopilot mode and how to live a life of awareness. It is only when we bring the brilliance of the Soul, many times even our own life starts to make any sense. But in this hurried chaos known as life who has the time to slow down, contemplate and move the life in the direction our Soul wants to take? Very difficult indeed.
But is it worth a try? Should we spend our lives in hurried chaos that asks us to start rushing from the minute we wake up from the bed until we fall back to it at the end of the day? Where are we even going? Should life be spent in a rush to later look back in old years with what could have been, should have been, or would have been?
I have read somewhere, majority of the humans when they look back at life in their old age, regret the steps they didn't take towards the things they truly desired. Any thing, whether it was to have a good career, start a company, marry the person they desired, or have a family they wished. Instead many times humans end up doing something very far from what they truly wished or desired.
Give a look around. Look at nature. Is anything rushing? Are the trees rushing to flower, fruit, shed leaves, and get into the winter mode? Are birds rushing to finish their everyday task so that they can get to the next task? Are the animals rushing through life? No. Everything takes it's own time to accomplish their tasks, except us humans. We are eternally rushing. To where? To our graves? What do we really accomplish by this rushing? Heart disease, cancer, stress, and all industrial dust-related diseases.
In another scenario, there is the chaos, whether in politics, religion or in social media. Everywhere it is discussions, debates, arguments, pushing ahead their point. How to make a sale, how to prove a point, how to target a customer, how to push a product, how to bring down competition, how to bring up one's own group, how to decimate another group, how to make people loyal, the chaos just continues. What are we fighting against? Our own brethren?
In the King James version of Bible (Chronicle 2, 11:4) it says, “Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.”Read once more, 'Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren:' This is from the Bible. Now let us take the platform this blog I have placed on, Hinduism. It says 'Tat Twam Asi'. Thou art that! So, the same speck of that or Brahman is in you as well as in me. So, both of us are the cloth cut from the same fabric. So what are we fighting about?
Peace: So, this chaos is the product of our mind. We have discussed that enough in many of the posts. Mind by nature is chaotic. It likes to get into situations, personal characteristics, comparisons, intellectualizations and more. When we are in the middle of a raging storm, can we ask for calmness? No. We have to come out of the mind space and then find the peace. So, standing within the chaos of the mind we can never embrace the peace. So, the mind has to be controlled. Then when we go to the brilliance of the Soul, the eternal peace of the Brahman descends on us.
But don't ever think that this peace is not chaotic. The Universe or Brahman itself is very chaotic, as the process of creation is inherently chaotic. Look at any Star systems. The galaxy at their middle or the inner core is a raging black hole. The Stars are also energetically raging gaseous giants. So, don't ever think the Brahman is peaceful. It is not. But in that chaotic creative process, there is also peace. It is a tough concept to realize.
To make the matters more clear we can say, during the process of creation, the very process itself is very chaotic. But once the process reaches a level of maturity then things start to function smoothly. For example, during the formation of the Solar system, the process was pretty chaotic. But once all the planets were formed and were placed in their orbits then a peaceful process of preservation started to happen. So, Brahman or the Universal energy is in the process of constant creation, maintenance, and destruction, an orderly process. A process when you look from a very high perspective has an inherent nature of peace.
But, in the case of humans when we operate from a mental perspective, it is always chaos. That too humans are one of the most aware creatures of this creation. But most of the times the awareness is deeply hidden under the mask of our mind. So, even being the most conscious creation as we know it, we are not using the awareness of the consciousness we have been bestowed with. This concept is so philosophical I am not sure whether I am making sense.
Fear: We have discussed the virtues and vices a human being can have. So as we are discussing, when we operate from a space of mind, due to the inherently chaotic nature, we cannot make sense of what are we in this Earth plane for, what is our purpose, why do we have to go through the numerous experiences. So, the chaos of the mind produces fear. Fear of what is in store for us around the corner of our life.
Would we become successful in life? Would we have enough wealth for tomorrow? Would we be healthy in our old age? Would we be surrounded by family and friends during our dire times? Would we be basically okay? Fear, fear, and fear. This fear to 'be okay' drives us. We are eternally running from this fear till we reach our grave. Some people have less of it, while some people are paralyzed by it. To make matters worse we are mired in more chaos of the politics, religion, news, and social media. Above the chaos in our own mind, the outside world also is chaotic.
Why suddenly all of us are feeling this world is becoming more and more chaotic day by day? We have become technologically so far ahead. Shouldn't the world become more peaceful? Why this chaos, with countries fighting with each other, trade wars, class, race, caste, and religious divides? Why is not peace and coexistence being the front and center in everyone's mind? Why this eternal fight? Is there any respite from this? Writing these sentences itself is tiring me out. So think, is there any wonder, that people are becoming stressed, sick, having diseases, being depressed, addicted to prescription drugs and opioids? Above that shooting of every kind, as of now more in the U.S.A.
So, pull back a little bit from this chaos and think. Humanity itself has become a prisoner to this demon called 'fear', the subconscious pattern the humans are dealing with as a race - fear. Before I had written a post about the collective unconscious - called Archetypes. The collective unconscious is the storehouse of ancestral memory stored as patterns and forms in our collective human subconscious (psyche). In other words, all of us have ancestors. They have gone through a lot of tough life experiences such as death, famine, murders, genocides, diseases, religious, political, and communal persecution and more. So, as all of us have ancestors, these patterns are firmly stored in our DNA, which put that stamp on our subconscious.
To put matters into a nutshell, we as a human race are enacting that patterns again, and again, and again. In the previous times, it was from animals and elements. Now that same patterns have become against other humans, terrorisms, and groups, that is all. Phew! I myself was not sure where this post was going. So, from that subconscious mind space would we ever find peace? No, We would only find fear and chaos. So, is the humanity condemned for life? No. I don't think so. So what is the way?
Awareness: We as humans, each one of us has to realize this grip of fear on us humans and should try to break out of this iron grasp. How? There is a great way. But we humans should be ready to put in the hard work. We have discussed many times, we humans are our thoughts. Thoughts make us or break us. There is a Vedic Philosophical law, which we have to put to use. It is 'Our inner reality reflects outside'. So, basically, each one of our life is a reflection of the inner reality we are living. If our life is stressful and chaotic, then we have to ask ourselves - is our inner life from the mind, chaotic and stress-laden? If it is, the outer reality is going to show up as chaos, stress, and frustrations.
Let me put on my Biotechnology hat (What a way the Divine takes care of details, making a blogger study Biotechnology ;-)))). As all of you know, I have spent around 20 years as a Biotechnologist. Stress and fear are emotions that help us to get out of a very death like situation, say in front of a tiger or lion, where we have only a few minutes to escape. At that time, the fear is needed to run away. The stress is needed to pump in the hormone Adrenaline (Epinephrine), that gives wings to our legs, to run, heart pumping faster to provide as much as blood to the extremities to take action to save oneself.
It was never intended to be used for a normal everyday situation. But now what is happening? Due to the modern technological world we live in, we are always stressed out. We are always in that 'fight or flight' mode. Chronic high level of stress, even when there is no tiger or lion to chase us. We are running every day as fast as we can in our thoughts, mind, and body. Where are we running? This constant running keeps a high level of stress hormones in our body. That constant level of hormones starts making changes to our innate protein and metabolic mechanism.
In my Masters in 2010, I was in Colon cancer research. There I was studying a protein called Survivin (BIRC5 protein), that is functional during the fetal stage of a human in the womb. Once the baby is fully grown around 2-4 years of age or even before that, the production of this protein stops. It is never expressed or becomes functional again in a person's life. But it has been shown in Colon cancer, this protein starts being produced again that helps in the growth of the cancer cells (Here is a fantastic paper that shows the network pathways of Survivin - Nature Reviews-Cancer. Click on the figures to see the pathways of how Survivin is a central molecule in many cancers.) When we map back the production of this fetal protein, it comes to rest on our modern life of stress and tension. Basically being living in stress and tension we are recreating the fetal stage of cell growth, but this time very uncontrolled into our adult life as cancer. A very sure sign of the unhealthy way we are living going from one stress to another.
Wisdom: So, shouldn't we stop as a human race, look where we are running mindlessly? Again to ask the same question- Are we in a marathon race to the grave? Not to have a fatalistic attitude, but to look at the human condition we are living in. Should we choose to live healthily or live in a world where our health and longevity are propped up by medicines? Should we go to the hospital when we are truly sick or invite the sickness to come and visit us? Should we keep our mind controlled and find the peace or should we keep on stressing ourselves out till we are tied to a number of medicines?
I was in the Biotechnology field trying to find a job in the same industry. They are doing a really fantastic job creating and finding a cure for diseases. But having a brilliant mind ourselves shouldn't we be smart enough to not get the diseases in the first place? Yes, healthy eating, diet, exercise everything is a very great way of living. But that just is not enough, because every reality we experience is through our own mind.
So, along with this, we have to also work with our mental realm. We have to keep the mind controlled so that, we can find that wisdom of the Soul. The wisdom that brings with it the peace of the source. The peace that calms us down saying, "Hey, Soul! You are okay. Don't worry, I am here, to take care of you and your loved ones. To lead you to the very best path for your own life, where you find the true peace and contentment. To that way of living where you embrace your authenticity, very true to your core, living the purpose you came to this 'Earth realm' to experience. That true path of your own Dharma, done to the very best you can! Your true Dharma!"
The true wisdom that can lead us to all that 'we can be', only if we allow ourselves to trust it!
I wish you a good weekend and I'll see you next Friday!😉

The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried".
