Spirituality as per Dharma!

Hello all,

Namaste! Hope all of you had a fantastic week where you were able to use the key to unlock the amazing treasures your own mind is ready to bestow upon you. Last week we discussed the key, our own will power in detail. It was discussed many times before in this blog, as a 'Collective unconscious', we human race has an enormous amount of pain, suffering, and desperation we have gone through. Every single experience as an ancestor gets recorded in the DNA. Then that DNA is passed generation after generation through the families. That is why many times patterns good as well as bad keeps on happening in every generation.

Subconscious conditioning: So, to come out of this deep DNA level ancestral conditioning and stand on our own will, desires and talents, it takes enormous mental power and prowess. The ancestral conditioning is like an unknown enemy whom we have to fight. But here the caveat is while rejecting the bad patterns we need to accept the good ones for ourselves. Let us take an example.

Say, in one family there was a great-grandfather who had terrific entrepreneurial skills. He just knew intuitively how to do business, how to influence people and make a deal for his business. He was a genius at that. Now, the same grandfather had a vice, alcohol. He used to drink to the full any chance he got. This is how he spent his life, make a deal, get drunk. Start a new project, get drunk. So, here the grandfather is giving both the entrepreneurial skills as well as the alcoholism.

Now, come to four generations later. The current person would have the same tendencies many times. Extremely smart, but has a huge aptitude for liquor. Both tendencies are passed along. Only with will power, the current person can accept the business skills while totally rejecting the vicious tendencies. So, we as a human can be a puppet in the hands of this subconscious conditioning or we can take charge of our own life. Both are in our hands.

Now, to take charge first we need to find what our true Dharma is. Think about a ship in a huge ocean. It would reach the destination if it has a radar, GPS, and all the latest technological gadgets. If it has no direction showing methods, it would go round and round in the ocean. Many times the ocean is so huge, it may not even know it is going off course. Isn't it the same with us human beings? Aren't we going round and round doing the same patterns over and over again? This is why it is not enough to be smart, but we need to develop awareness as well.

Modern Spirituality: Nowadays, hope all of you have noticed a trend. We as humans have started giving utmost importance to spirituality, much more than the previous times. Suddenly it is as if people have woken up from a slumber and want to really know what is spirituality, the stories of the divine, reading sacred books, chanting mantras, attending social and cultural-spiritual get-togethers and more. We are getting into that mindset of yes, we need to read everything, need to know every story, need to know every mantra and need to know every ritual, in any religion.

There is nothing wrong with knowing mantras, hymns, rituals, and culture. It is extremely good. The culture would polish a raw stone into a gem, a person rough on the edges into the charm of a person. True! But with any ritual or mantra, there should also come a very personal relationship with the divine. When that deep personal relationship takes place, there is no need for mantra, chants or rituals. A simple calling the name of the divine is enough- the protection, the abundance, as well as the focus for life, comes.

So, the question is in the group spirituality is the individual Dharma of the person getting taken care of? Every religion or spiritual group has a leader or teacher. The teacher is totally doing their Dharma. They are standing strong in their true purpose. They are supposed to guide the people. But are the followers really doing their duty? Now, another question that comes to mind is, isn't the follower also provided with a mind? Is that mind just supposed to follow a teacher or a leader? If they are just supposed to follow a leader and do nothing for their own life, why are they provided with a brilliant, inquisitive mind?

Universe - The best energy master there is!

As we have discussed before, the Universe is the most efficient energy manager. To make a human being with a fantastic intelligence. intellect, and mind, it spends a whole lot of energy. So, instead of taking charge of our own life is it good to just spend our days listening to chants, mantras, rituals, and a whole lot of sacred book reading? Now, you may ask, so if you are writing against it, why are you doing it? Why are you reading books? Why are you pursuing Vedic knowledge and wisdom? Why are you reading signs and symbols? True! Absolutely true!

But isn't there also the fact that I tried to pursue twenty-five years of Biotechnology to become a scientist. Didn't I send unending resumes, job searches and calling up the recruiters? Wasn't I barking up the wrong tree, when my Dharma rests solidly in writing, guiding, and mentoring the people? So, there lies the difference. This is my Dharma, the true purpose from which I tried to run for some 25-30 years. But everyone who comes in Spirituality are they really pursuing their true Dharma? That is the question.

True Dharma: So, there lies the difference. As long as we don't pursue our own truest Dharma, the path which we are supposed to pursue remains untouched. As long as,we don't uncover it, we are confused and go around life in total darkness. That light in the darkness is not outside, but within. We can go to any number of meetings, group discussions, and gathering, and listen to every kind of wisdom and wise words. All that adds up to our information and the knowledge base.

Information and knowledge are different from the wisdom we need for our own life. Each of us has been sent to this Earth with the exact tools we need to lead the very best life we can lead. But instead of exploring those tools and developing it, if we go around life just listening to the words of others, would our tool gets polished, shiny and dazzling? This doesn't mean not to listen to anybody. Listen! Get very much inspired by how others are totally taking charge of their life.

Now, turn the attention to your life. How can you be inspired to make it the highest it can be. Did the Universe just spend such an enormous amount of energy just for that being to go and listen to Prabhashans (spiritual speeches), rituals, and community group enlightenment? Nowadays there is group enlightenment session, Kundalini rising get-togethers and more. But unfortunately, the truth is spirituality and accessing the true wisdom is very much a custom built path. There is no group pass into the enlightenment zone.

Now, what is true enlightenment? Many times people think that it is a brilliant light that explodes as a volcano in our mind and from the very next second onwards we are a changed person. Wish it had been so easy. There were times where I also totally bought into that. But once I knew what it was my whole attitude changed. What is enlightenment? Bringing the light of the divine within. That is true enlightenment. In other words, to remove all the junk and gunk we carry from eons and lifetimes, so that the brilliant divine we are searching outside, we find within, in our Soul as the speck of divine we carry. The en 'light'enment. The light in the enlightenment is the light within, our own Soul in it's truest form without any conditioning.

So, it is not bringing in new things, but to remove everything, ego, pride, vices, emotions, everything so that one's own divine nature shines through. Now, how does the divine shine through? The Soul can shine through only from our actions, words, and attitudes. So, is it okay to go to the temple, mosque, or any religious gathering for every single day, then work for a terrorist organization, or to shout in the face of another person practicing another religion, that their religion is wrong and the only path to the divine is through just their single own way? Is it correct?

If it is like that, why is there a Soul for everyone and a mind and an intellect to find that Soul? Isn't it enough to give Souls to just a few top dogs and leave the rest as Soul-less, mindless creatures? Does it make any sense for the Divine to spend so much energy to painstakingly create each one with a heart, mind, and Soul and for humans to not listen to one's own wisdom, go around asking anyone and everyone how to find enlightenment and their true Dharma? Does it make any sense?

Spirituality as Dharma: Here is where the truest spirituality takes shape. Our own personal spirituality to find ourself. Our Swaroopa- the authentic Self. Who one is without any of the conditioning in the core or the truest heart. What one 'is'. That is it. There is no conditioning, attitudes, layers, or masks. Just one 'is'. The simple but grand 'I'- the being from the Soul. Once we find that we also come to know the associated characteristics of that I.

The second we find, the 'I' in Who am I, our purpose, our Dharma, our direction to the path, our greater purpose, why we took birth in this Earth in the first place, everything becomes crystal clear. I have written elaborately how to find that 'I' or Aham in Sanskrit. Now this 'Aham' is not the ego-self from the mind. But the pure divine or the higher Self. Once that is uncovered, we reach a sense of peace where there is no need to have arrogance, ego, or pride.

The calmness or a serene peace of 'knowing' who one is descends on oneself. But then is the work done? Nope. Only now the real work of Dharma starts. Until then the work was to find that Dharma. Now, in this work, the Soul is the Krishna, the mind, the Arjuna, the body is the chariot, the senses are the horses, the focus of the mind are the reins. Only after this, the real war of 'Kurukshetra' starts. The war to capture our truest Self as well as our purpose being in this Earth realm while fighting our vices, conditioning, deep fear, and self-doubt. The real war to walk our sacred Soul path.

Ramakrishna Paramahansa-The wisdom of the master!

Let us finish with a story. In Kolkata, in the late 1800s, Vivekananda was the disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahansa. After a lot of learning, contemplation, and analysis, Vivekananda came to realize his true Self. Now, he wanted to rest and have a peaceful life. Then Ramakrishna Paramahansa let him know, "Now, you have realized who you are. It is now that the real work starts. Go into the world. Teach and guide what you have learned. There is not even a second for you to rest". A true Guru just gives directions to the disciple to find their path. Asks to take charge of their destiny and pave the very path, which has not been paved yet, but the potential is waiting for the paver to show up. The real spirituality as Dharma.

So, in our rush to get enlightened we need to think, okay we want to get enlightened, now after that what are we going to do with it? Does enlightenment help us to do our Dharma? Once we know our Dharma- true purpose, what are our plans? How are we going to take actions to put in our purpose into effect? How can it work for us? How can our Dharma work for the greater good? How can we bring our drop of Dharma to work for the Dharma of the Earth or Vasudha or Gaia? That is indeed true Spirituality as Dharma!

Now, whether to pursue it or not, of course, that is always our free will and choice!

I wish you a good weekend and I'll see you next Friday!😉

Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, "There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance ; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried".
