How should Radha be?

Hello all,

Namaste! Hope all of you had a great week where you were able to bring together your mind and Soul as Radha and Krishna, truly united to become one energy. Last week we discussed Radha, the mind that is truly in tandem with the Soul aligned to do the Dharma. Many times in our harried every day living we never reach this alignment. Our Soul remains a silent observer as our mind is bogged down with million activities that pull our focus to thousand different directions.

In a previous post we had discussed a concept. In that we discussed that when we are born the mind has no connection with the Soul. Many times mind interferes on its own activities. Let us take an example. Think of a feedback loop. The energy of the mind acts on itself to make it more aggressive to do more of the mental activities. A loop where thoughts of the mind feeds more thoughts of the mind. This loop never stops. The only time such a mind takes a break is during the sleep. Above this factor, the mind and the Soul in the normal sense has no connection. Only with deep inner contemplation, we begin to build the bridge between the Soul and the mind. This bridge in Sanskrit is called Anthahkarana (अन्तःकरणः ). For this bridge to come into existence we need deliberate, intentional inner contemplation. Who has time for that?

Now, bring this same mind to our modern times. We already have a distracted mind. In these modern times we have so many things that call us to their attention-internet, social media, apps, YouTube, print media, videos, Instagram,Whats-app and what not. The mind is getting stimulated every other second. We go from one high of checking the FB to the next high of taking a selfie to the next high of watching a video. Is our mind in a calm state or is it in the energy of one second up and one second down?

We keep on checking our computer, cell phone or our latest trends. Can you sense that chaotic, distracted energy from these words? Distracted, chaotic and fleeting. When our mind is focused on this up and down roller-coaster ride, can we really put that mind to deep, enriching, creative work? It seems many of the youngsters are now finding it tough to keep their attention on a particular subject for a long time. Here is a story on BBC about distracted youth.

Technology should be used for the progress and modern evolution of society. But making a mind that can produce brilliant, creative work into hyper stimulated, frenzied, turbulent mess, does it account to progress? Have we in the name of progress taken the mind into the realm of deep, distracted chaos? This is the massive invasion that is overtaking our minds. To get away from this we try our best to become unplugged with little or no success. We need to think, is this really progress or have we been lulled into a chaos that seems like progress.

Now, a bit of personal housekeeping. I realize, I write this blog with many many questions. My aim is not to disseminate some random information. My intention is to make each blog reader to think, realize and see with awareness the reality of the situation. For that, instead of writing random statements, questions are more apt. Therefore I ask many questions. Just felt I needed to clarify.

Mind: What is our mind? According to Wikipedia, "The mind is the set of cognitive faculties including consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, judgement, language and memory, which is housed in the brain (sometimes including the central nervous system). It is usually defined as the faculty of an entity's thoughts and consciousness. It holds the power of imagination, recognition, and appreciation, and is responsible for processing feelings and emotions, resulting in attitudes and actions."

The definition itself is pretty long. Such a mind constantly being plugged into the internet and social media is turning it into distracted, chaotic mush. A distracted, confused mind cannot handle deep, contemplative and original thought process. So, with technology are we creating walking and talking zombies? When our thought processes are going up and down, we cannot make sense of our own reality. It is a fact that many times continuously being plugged on the internet our physical reality and the mental reality, the separation many times become non-existent.

The fact is, physical reality we sense through our five senses. Later the mind is used to analyze and interpret our own place in our life. The same sense organs are being used for the virtual reality as well. So, can't the difference between the physical reality and the reality from the mind juxtapose onto one another. Such a mind that is confused about every thing, how can it lead us onto a successful and prosperous life?

According to Vedic Philosophy, 'Our inner reality reflects outside'. So, if our mind is confused and chaotic we can be sure that the chaos would show up outside, in our physical reality as well. Think about the internet, media, social media, trade market and business world. What is the feeling we get? A very busy, frenetic, fast paced life. No wonder every one is craving for some quiet and silent space. We have allowed our mind to wander in that energy. As this energy consumes every one, we as a 'collective consciousness' is dealing with this fast paced, rat race of a life.

Is there any wonder scores of people are knocking the doors of the hospitals and we are becoming chronic pill popping humans? Contemplate how the medical and pharmaceutical industries are thriving. Was this the way life was some 50-60 years ago? Yes, medical and scientific progress are needed. But above that should not the humans live a life deeply placed in their own power? Why have we become a bunch of powerless, harried, tired, mind-driven creatures?

Radha-How should the mind be? The answer is, our mind has lost the deep connections with the source. Radha is always supposed to be in loving contact with Krishna in metaphorical sense. In other words, our mind should be deeply aligned with our own higher-self. We have generally lost this connection. This higher-self is not the idol sitting in the temple or the picture hanging on the wall. But our own divine spark within. This should definitely be the Master. Our mind the dedicated, devoted servant. Instead the servant has taken the role of the Master.

Our mind only knows so much. Think about a drop of water in an ocean. If that water drop is removed from the ocean, it is just a drop. But when the drop is in the ocean, the drop itself becomes the ocean. This is the same for us. When we operate just from our mind, we are kept away from the wisdom of the Brahman (the Universe)-just a drop. But when we align with our higher-self, the drop becomes the ocean. The whole wisdom of the Universe starts flowing through us.

But, for the wisdom to flow, our mind should first become an empty vessel devoid of ego, ready to channel and fill with all the ancient wisdom. But when our mind is already full of ego, notions, perspectives, and attitudes, how can the ancient wisdom flow through us? This is the difference between us and Radha. Radha was so fully committed and in union with Krishna (her own higher mind), there was no smaller mind or ego in the picture.

But us, humans, we allow our smaller mind to overtake us. Even a very small accomplishment, we want people to see, acknowledge and appreciate. Isn't the internet and social media full of this showcasing of talents, accomplishments and performances? Radha was not concerned about accolades or attainments. She was only focused on her Krishna, higher-self, plugged into her duty or Dharma. When we go behind the accolades, we many times leave the deep commitment to our own Dharma behind. The path of Dharma is very much our own, doing our responsibility.

In that space, the accomplishment is our innate fulfillment. Our genuine happiness in doing our duty. The deep connection with our own Soul. A peaceful, pleasant, relaxed and joyful attitude. In that state there is no hurried, frenetic, feverish, mad pace. We are shown our path through our own intuition. We are provided tremendous insights. We are deeply rooted in our own life. We are blessed with creative inspiration. We are given a chance to be abundantly successful. In that state we also feel a deep gratitude and a sense of humility for being given a chance to lead a very focused, deeply spiritual and very authentic life. A profoundly purposeful life!

So, shouldn't we make our mind as Radha? A mind that is filled with divine inspiration and unique creativity, which we can mold to our own style and share with the world. This is the metaphorical meaning of Radha that comes to my mind. Radha- the eternal lover of Krishna, who has no separate existence from her Krishna. A mind totally and fully aligned with it's own higher-self. May every one capture their own Radha and Krishna!

I wish you a good weekend and I'll see you next Friday!😉

Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, "There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance ; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried".
