Why are Rahu and Kethu, shadow planets?
Hello all,
Namaste! I want to let my blog readers know about my new website-swaroopa.net. Very simple id, not the complicated blog id address. Now to the post.
Last week we discussed how to understand RÄhu and Kethu we need to use our mind. Without the help of the mind, we can't understand the energy of RÄhu or Kethu- the shadow planets. Let us elaborate more on this concept with Vedic astrology (everything discussed here is Vedic/Indian). As all of you know, the south Indian Vedic astrology chart is divided into twelve different houses. Each house is lorded by a graha (planet in loose terms).
Astrological houses: According to this concept, the Sun is considered the king of the chart. In the physical world, the Sun in the physical manifestation is our personality. In the metaphysical sense it is the Soul, or the true divine essence of our being. Sun (Surya) as per the duty the mythical Gods gave took the house of Leo. It is the natural fifth house- house of children, creativity and passion. Leo is the lion. A lion can roar. Here the house of Leo roars with passion and creativity. So, Leo is a fiery house, or has fire as element.
Now, next comes the Moon. Moon (Chandra) was given the house of Cancer, the fourth house - the house of the mother, ancestral home, hearth and comfort. As we all know, the second we hear about our mother, comfort and coziness comes into our mind. This is an emotional house, also the place where we can be ourselves. We don't have to dress up or be in a professional attire. The place where we can be ourselves in our private Self.
Now, the next planet, Mercury (Budha) got the houses of Gemini and Virgo. Gemini is the third house of communication, writing, speech and words. Virgo is the sixth house that represents everyday activity, debts, diseases and small animals. Now, don't take anything in a literal sense. There are a thousand combinations and the effect can manifest in a million permutations and combinations. We are just discussing, which planet lords what house.
Same way, Mars (Kuja) got the first house of Aries and eighth house of Scorpio. Here the point to take notice is Aries is a house of fire element and Scorpio that of water element. So, in a deeper esoteric sense a true leader who has a very good Mars can handle the fiery emotion of passion (Aries) and the deep, intuitive and emotional house of water (Scorpio). Many times in traditional astrology, Mars is considered a malefic or evil planet. But a leader is not made if Mars is damaged. Mars gives the drive, ambition and passion.
Now, the next planet. Venus rules the Earth sign of Taurus and the air sign of Libra. So, a person who has a strong Venus would be great at building wealth or material comforts (Earth) as well as in communication of legal, ethics or law (Libra). Jupiter lords the house of Sagittarius, another fiery house and the water house of Pisces. Here, when the house of Sagittarius is strong, the fire is that of Dharma or duty. For example Vivekananda was someone who propelled Dharma passionately forward, the fire of duty or Dharma.
The planet Saturn rules the house of Capricorn and Aquarius. Capricorn is the Earth and Aquarius is the house of air. The two signs are extremely different. Capricorn is the sign of organizations, multinational companies and large structures. Aquarius is very different. It is the sign of huge networks and social engagements. Facebook is a good example. So, here did we notice anything? We discussed all the planets. The twelve houses are done. But what about RÄhu and Kethu?
Shadow planets: As they have energies that are more shadowy in nature, they don't have their own houses. They are only co-lords with another planet. Kethu rules Scorpio along with Mars while RÄhu rules Aquarius along with Saturn. So, here is where the difference in the energies of the other planets and RÄhu/Kethu comes. Say for example, Venus rules the liquid wealth as in literal cash and money. So, if the Venus is damaged in some charts, the money becomes less or the person finds it very difficult to have money. The energy manifests in a more literal physical sense.
This is not the case with RÄhu or Kethu. They effect is more on our mind. The energy of these two planets are very shadowy in nature. Think like this. Can we literally hold a shadow in our hands? No. But any day we go out in the Sun, it is there, the constant follower. This is the same with RÄhu and Kethu. The energy of the other planets can affect our physical body and life. But RÄhu and Kethu affects our mind. They are the nodal points of the Moon.
As Moon is the mind, it makes sense that RÄhu and Kethu affects our mind. Both RÄhu and Kethu embraces the exact energy of the houses they lord. According to the placement and the strength of RÄhu and Kethu in the chart, their energies affect our mind. As we discussed in the last week's post, Kethu embraces the energy of the ancestors, and family lineage, mainly the maternal family. RÄhu embraces more of the future lifetimes starting with the next second.
If the person is not truly aware they vacillate between Kethu and RÄhu. From one end to the next. Let me explain this more elaborately. As a human being, how do we mostly spend our time? We, humans live in our minds. Yes, we interact with others and have a social life. But is that really so? In truth, aren't the five sense organs collecting the information from our surroundings, our brain interpreting it and letting us know? So, in reality, in truth, we are always in our mind, just taking in the information, analyzing, contemplating and thinking.
What do we always think about? We are either thinking about the past that has gone behind or the future that is yet to come. The effect of RÄhu and Kethu. Kethu is the energy of the ancestors, the past lives and the past. RÄhu is the energy of the future. This is the one point, which shows how the mind is getting affected. RÄhu is always taking us into the future while Kethu is always pushing us to look behind.
See, the effect of the shadow energies on our mind? We live our life either regretting the past decisions we made, the exact Kethu energy, or we are always looking forward to the future, the RÄhu energy. The way the two energies play on our mind. Can we really use the past or the future? No. Shadow energies. We can't go to fix the past or change the decisions we made. We can't also move to the future to see the after effects of the decisions we take in the present. So, what should we do? Remember, the concept we discussed before?
The moment of Now: Let us dust the concept once more. The moment of 'Now'. We in true reality only has this moment. This very present, gift like moment. At that moment we are given our choices. We have to select our choices. But once we select a choice, the door to the other choice gets closed. For example, the minute a kid decides to become a doctor, the door to engineering would get closed. The minute we decide to marry someone, the other persons get negated from our life.
So, except for birth, very young age, very old age and death, we have to choose. Each second we are making a choice. All the moments I chose to write has built up into a blog having 150 posts. At that moment, I chose to write. I could have very well not chosen to write. Then I would not have built up the blog. Same with Quora answers. So, at any particular moment a choice or an opportunity appears. The energy of RÄhu and Kethu affects the mind. The qualities of the mind becomes extremely important.
Kethu in its lower vibration is the energy of fear. The fear that we inherit from our past, ancestors, conditioning. RÄhu in its lower vibration is the energy of aggression. So, fear and anger. The two deep vices almost every mind struggles with. Either a person is angry or they are fearful. Either a person has rage or they are totally afraid. One quality makes the person a bully. The other quality makes a person, the bullied-the victim. These are two of the deep situations we as humans come across again and again.
If we are not careful and aware of ourselves, either we become the bully or we become the victim. Both are not great positions. One gives us a false sense of power and the other makes us powerless. RÄhu and Kethu. So, to really understand this RÄhu/Kethu dynamics, we should develop a very intelligent mind. Only then when the choices or opportunities appear we can realize such an opportunity has presented itself. The mind clear of fear and rage. Both emotions muddle the mind.
Once we realize the presence of the opportunity we need to use our intellect towards cutting away the mediocre options to work towards the best options. Then by virtue of the options we chose, the experiences that show up, makes us wise to take greater decisions. When the opportunity shows us, using the knowledge Kethu brings us, we should take actions that herald a bright future, the fantastic energy of RÄhu.
That is the difference? The mind is not going to the past- Kethu or future- RÄhu. It is solidly in the present moment- the Now and bringing the energy of lessons of the past and the future state towards it. This is the energy we should embrace- the balanced, inspired, motivated and peaceful energy of the 'Now'. Not the dilly-dallying of the mind between two nodal points, that can only affect us if we allow our mind to wander. Yes, we should allow our mnd to wander to acquire imagination/idea, not while making a decision. It is through unawareness, these shadow planets can affect us with anger/ fear or past/future. But if we are aware, we can take advantage of these energies.
Being balanced in the present moment we should use our intelligence and intellect to find or create our opportunities. That way we are creating our life the way we want moment by moment. The best way we can use the shadow energy of Rahu and Kethu towards our lives. We don't have to fear any of these energies if we know. Every single planet of the Navagrahas (nine planets) are there to educate us to think at a higher perspective towards our Dharma and duty.
The second we decide to pursue our true duty or Dharma, every single graha (planet) aligns to give us the most support as possible. But here also it is our duty to out in the necessary work. Now whether to pursue our Dharma or not? That is always each human's free will and choice!
I wish you a good weekend and I'll see you next Friday! š
